7 Tips to Have the Best Game Day Experience at Cyclone Ballparks

Cyclone Ballparks has hosted some great competitions in the region thanks to the many great teams that have attended our baseball and softball tournaments. We’re ready to welcome even more teams with our Phase II expansion, bringing more fields, better concessions, and more amenities for families.

Read our seven tips to have the best game-day experience at Cyclone Ballparks so you can know before you go.

1. Prepare for Warmth and Chill

The summer months of June through August are very warm in our desert climate. However, spring and fall can bring a wide range of temperatures because of the low humidity. April might see daytime highs in the low 80s, but nighttime temperatures can get in the mid-40s. The same is true for October.

So, if you’re coming to town for a softball or baseball tournament in the spring or fall, bring clothes for the heat during the day and chill after the sun goes down.

2. Stay Hydrated at Cyclone Ballparks

A desert climate means lower humidity levels. However, you still need to stay hydrated when you’re at the ballpark. Drink plenty of water while you’re here, as the warm sun can sap your energy during the day.

Lower humidity levels can make it seem like you’re not thirsty since you’re not sweating as much. So, it’s important to pay attention to the signs of dehydration:

  • Thirst
  • Less frequent trips to the bathroom
  • Headache
  • Dry mouth, lips and tongue
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness

We recommend taking one sip of water every 15 minutes to stay hydrated. There are nearby bathrooms, so you won’t miss the action. Our on-site concession stands can help you with bottled water and refreshments throughout the day.

3. Find the Shade

We have shade structures for spectators, which is important during the summer months with the sun beating down overhead. You can keep an eye on your favorite player and team throughout the day from the safety and comfort of our shaded structures.

When you are away from our shaded structures, make sure to wear sunscreen and lightweight, light-colored clothing to stay cooler. A  loose-fitting cotton T-shirt works best for the daytime at Cyclone Ballparks. Consider a white umbrella to keep the sun off of you as you walk back to your car. A wide-brimmed hat can keep the sun off of your face and head as you walk from place to place at our complex.

4. Take Lots of Photos

We encourage lots of photos at our picturesque facility. Capture those Instagram-worthy moments like a homerun, play at the plate, or diving catch in the outfield. The stands and bleachers offer perfect opportunities to get action shots of your favorite player in action.

If live streaming and video recording are more your speed, we have spots for that, too, so you can catch every second of every game. Talk to us about how to set up your video equipment for games. You’ll love making new memories at Cyclone Ballparks, and we’d be happy to help you with your photo opportunities.

5. Get in the Spirit of Things

You can get in the spirit of the game by doing more than just watching from the stands. Cheer for every good play when someone makes a great effort. Wear your child’s jersey number so everyone knows who you’re there to see. Encourage your team in between innings.

You’ll hear cheers coming from the dugout, like, “We want a single, just a little single.” Or there’s, “Three up, three down, that’s how we get around.” Participate in the cheers along with the team. You’ll feel the energy, too.

6. Bring Everything You Need With You for the Day

You might spend a good portion of your day at the ballpark, depending on the game schedule. Round robin play generally has a set schedule, but games can run long. Bracket and elimination play, while structured, can have a schedule largely on what teams win, how long games go, and which bracket advances. A loser’s bracket team can play back-to-back-to-back games all day long if the team loses in the early rounds.

So, we encourage you to bring everything you need for the day. Prepare for the weather and varied temperatures due to the dry area. It can be quite warm during the day and chilly at night.

Other items to keep in your vehicle include:

  • Blankets for cooler evenings
  • Change of clothes for cooler temperatures
  • Healthy snacks
  • Bottles of water
  • Cooler filled with ice to keep drinks cold
  • Extra uniforms for between games
  • First-aid kit
  • Hand sanitizer or wipes for finger foods at the ballpark
  • Portable phone charger
  • Extra items for baby, like diapers and bottles, if you have a small child
  • Mobile devices and earbuds for downtime
  • Bluetooth speakers to listen to music
  • Gear bag to keep everything organized
  • Sunscreen
  • Umbrella for shade

Keep in mind that some items are not allowed in the ballpark, so you may have to leave food and drinks in your vehicle.

7. Bring A Winning Attitude

Youth baseball and softball are more about loving the sports and learning how to play the game. Travel tournaments are less about winning and more about having fun with family, friends, and teammates.

Enjoy every moment in travel baseball. Heading to Pecos, Texas, offers a fun family vacation spot with our family-friendly destination filled with restaurants, retail shopping, plenty of hotels, and lots to do in town and in the surrounding area.

How many times have you heard, “It’s the journey, not the destination?” that’s definitely true when it comes to spending time with family on summer trips. Not only will you make fond memories, but you will also help your family bond and grow together.
