We pride ourselves on a top-notch playing experience for softball and baseball teams at Cyclone Ballparks. Our fields are all artificial turf, which is a good thing in the heat of summer in Southwest Texas when we’re hosting the top baseball and softball tournaments in the region.
Why did we choose artificial turf? There are several advantages of turf baseball fields. Read five reasons as to why.
1. All-Weather Playability
It doesn’t rain much in Pecos (we’re lucky to get 12 inches a year). But when it does rain in April and May, be prepared for a rain delay until the weather clears.
Luckily, one of the advantages of turf baseball fields is that they don’t need a lot of work when it rains. Modern artificial turf works by using a drainage system under the turf that quickly drains any water away.
The reason this works well for baseball and softball tournaments is that it keeps weather delays to a minimum. Yes, teams may have to wait inside while it rains. But after the rain moves away, the artificial turf is ready to go. Our tournaments won’t have lengthy weather delays so long as it doesn’t rain for several hours.
2. Consistent Playing Surface
Another of the top advantages of turf baseball fields is that it creates a consistent playing surface. The baseball or softball bounces the same wherever it’s hit. There are no uneven surfaces, soft spots, hard spots, or strange rolls. The bounces your fielders have to worry about are short hops on grounders and caroms off the outfield wall.
A consistent playing surface also makes it easier to practice, warm up, and play each game. One of the best advantages of turf baseball fields over the course of a weekend tournament is that all of the fields play the same. If it rains, there won’t be any pools of water on one field, while another is bone-dry because of drainage issues. Every field is exactly the same, and they all play the same, so it levels the playing field for all teams.
3. Low Maintenance
As a tournament proceeds, one of the other advantages of turf baseball fields is that they don’t need a lot of maintenance. There won’t be any divots or holes in the batter’s boxes late in the game. Our field crews won’t have to re-chalk the batter’s boxes or baselines in between games. That saves everyone time and makes the games go more smoothly.
Turf baseball fields have many layers underneath that drain water effectively. These layers also prevent pests, like moles or groundhogs, from digging holes in our fields. All of the fields at Cyclone Ballparks are in great shape!
4. Durability
Artificial baseball turf can last up to 20 years when it’s taken care of properly! Many companies have 8-year warranties on the turf. But we are taking care of this investment so that it lasts as long as it can.
When you play at Cyclone Ballparks next year and five years from now, the turf fields will still be in great shape. We invite you to experience some of the best baseball fields in Southwest Texas!
5. Water Conservation
Artificial turf doesn’t require weekly watering. We save this precious resource by not needing to use hundreds of gallons of water every week to keep our fields in top shape. Every tournament at Cyclone Ballparks, from baseball and softball to tee ball and kickball, will be played on a durable yet soft surface that doesn’t waste a drop of water.
The money we would spend on water to maintain the fields can go to other great things about these ball fields, like hosting the best baseball and softball tournaments in Southwest Texas. We think you and your team will love what we’ve done here in Pecos.
