Over 2,500 People from Pecos and Surrounding Communities Attend this Celebration of Literacy
Cyclone Ballparks, managed by Sports Facilities Companies (SFC), welcomed members of the Pecos community on Saturday, May 14th for four hours dedicated to the joy of reading. This event was produced in a partnership with the Love of Literacy Reading Coalition and the Pecos Barstow Toyah Independent School District (PBTISD). There were free books for all attendees, and appearances by beloved children’s book characters Junie B. Jones, Curious George and Little Critter.
Cyclone Ballparks General Manager, Cathy Garcia, said “The team at Cyclone was thrilled to be able to gather our neighbors together for Books in the Ballpark.” She added, “We had hoped that the Pecos area would embrace the chance to collect free new books to read, but the turnout far surpassed our expectations and we can’t wait to repeat this event here again in the near future!”
Visitors to the event were treated to a performance by the Mighty Pecos Eagle Band. Several tables and tents were set up by local vendors to give out prizes and tickets. Each ticket in turn allowed the holder to receive a free book.
Books in the Ballpark was contacted by PBTISD’s Dr, Sharon Amaya to host the event. “PBTISD’s Love of Literacy would like to thank Cyclone Ballparks for taking time during tournament season to host our event,” said Dr. Sharon Amaya, PBTISD District Librarian. “Thanks to Cyclone’s help and our other sponsors, we were able to give away over 5,000 books to the community of Pecos!”
Cyclone Ballparks can host a multitude of different events at their property – offering 5 synthetic turf fields, onsite concessions, shade structures for spectators, a grandstand with press box, batting cages, pitching tunnels and on-site parking.
